1. Change face towels regularly!
In the summer every 2-3 days, in the winter every 6-7 days. Every household is different, the idea is to keep the towels dry, so if you live in an extremely damp region then the days may vary for you. Personally, I sundry my towels after wetting them (weather permitting).
2. Change pillowcases!
Depending on the area you live in and the climate conditions this may vary. (Always wash your face before bed). In the summer period, I change them once weekly. In the winter every 10 days. Note that I live in Athens, Greece and there are basically 2 seasons all year round :).
I mean spring and fall are usually a 10-15-day phenomenon. Summer and winter, on the other hand, tend to last more.
3. Use the right face soap for your skin type!
Many people are not aware that NOT all soaps are suitable for all. Some are for dry, other for oily, or combined skin types. It is important to determine your type. It is quite easy to do, just visit your local makeup retail shop and consult the assistant and if still in doubt just ask another one, or go to the nearest pharmacy.
You will be surprised how willing to help they are. If they suggest a product to you. Don’t worry, you do not need to purchase anything you can just ask for a sample of the product they are suggesting, try it home and decide later.
Please keep in mind that you do not need to overdo it, no matter your skin type, you do not require 99,9% bacterial ‘killer’ soap. Your face skin is very sensitive, mild soap for your particular type should do the job. Avoid products that leave your skin too dry, if after you wash your face you feel as if your skin is about to crack then this soap is not for you.
I personally prefer a cleansing foam and you can read my review on it here.
4. Wash your face twice a day for the ultimate pimple-free result!
Once in the morning. This way you get to remove the dead skin created from the night sleep. And once at night before bed to remove dirt from the day. In some extreme situations like traveling or if you notice excessive natural oils on your face due to heat for example then more than twice might be required. In general, dermatologists recommend twice daily.
5. Use the right moisturizer for your skin type!
This is also very important. After washing your face, you must apply a moisturizing cream if you use two different ones, one for the day and another one for the night then that’s ok too. Again, I have to point out the importance of a suitable cream for your skin type.
If you notice that the cream you are using leaves your face too greasy or it doesn’t get absorbed easily by the skin, there is some redness or anything out of the ordinary please do not use the cream. Trust your gut instinct with every product, it is always right.
6. Always remove your makeup before bed!
I know, I sound like your mama most likely. But she is right, mamas are always right.
According to celebrity dermatologist Dr. Annie Chiu “If you don’t cleanse your face, dirt and dead skin cells are not removed”. As we all know this could lead to different unwanted skin damage.
Here you can read the bad thing happen when you leave your makeup on while asleep.
7. Peel your face every 15 days with a mild peeling mask!
I personally use a home-made one.
1Tsp honey mixed with 1tsp sugar (1drop lemon juice -optional)
Apply on the whole face using your fingertips, with circular anticlockwise movements.
Allow 3-5 min to dry, then wash your face and apply moisturizer as usual.
After I do this peeling, I feel my skin so soft and purified. Try it and I am sure you will fall in love with it.
I also have one from Caudalie which is awesome, anytime I don’t have access to the homemade one I use this one. If I am traveling I never forget to take it, it saves me. On the plus side, it is 75ml, totally travel approved!
8. Avoid touching the face with your fingertips!
There are bacteria everywhere. In order to avoid transferring it to your face just use the back of your hand if needed.
9. Use sunblock for a pimple-free face!
I can’t emphasize this enough. My skin had a tendency to become red often. Working at a pharmacy I was given the opportunity to learn from the best. I learned how important sunscreen all year round is.
I mean think about it, the sunlight UV penetrates the atmosphere 365 days a year. Even though they are invisible to the human eye we still need to protect our skin and most importantly the sensitive exposed skin even in the winter, such as our face.
So, sunblock, sunblock, and sunblock some more…. just in case 🙂

10. Use the right makeup for your skin!
Once you have determined your skin type either by consulting a makeup artist, a sales assistant at the beauty department, or a pharmacist then you also know what kind of makeup to purchase. Again, do not be shy to consult an assistant at the makeup stand.
I visited a Mac cosmetics store in my area and consulted a makeup artist about what makeup to use. She was amazing and extremely helpful. Mac cosmetics is a professional makeup brand!
Now here comes the crazy part. Please do yourself a huge favor by GETTING RID OF ALL THE PRODUCTS THAT ARE NOT FOR YOUR SKIN TYPE.
This step is the hardest, I remember when I had to do it. I was tearing up. So, cry if necessary, let it out. Breath in and out. Remember that pimple-free skin is on the other side.
I totally understand the effort involved in changing all the habits you already have. Let’s not talk about the cost of throwing all your existing products but the end result will amaze you!
