How to Apply Sunscreen: The Devil is in the Detail

Do you think you know how to apply sunscreen correctly? This is a tricky question considering that we ALL think we do. Trust me, I also thought I knew in the past.

Have you heard someone tell you “I got burned, even though I was wearing sunscreen”? or my all time favorite, “There was no sun and I still got burned”?

I hear them all the time and I decided to write this post and explain why you might feel that your sunscreen is not working; if you ever applied it in the first place 😊.

Side note: You might be using it the wrong way!

I have my own experience with not applying sunscreen and it was horrible. You see, I ended up with second degree burns on my back. I was only able to sleep on my belly for 2 weeks (not a position I like). The memories of my best friends back then – Aloe Vera gel and yogurt are still very vivid. Since, then I have learnt my lesson.

You have heard about SPF and most likely know the usual “the higher the number the better”. But what exactly does this mean?

The other day, I was having an argument with my sister about what exactly the SPF index means and how we should use sunscreen accordingly. It turns out that many people look for the SPF index on the label but that’s about it.

I asked a few of my friends and they also didn’t know anything else besides “the higher the number the better”.

After doing my research here is my post; where I explain what the SPF index is and why you should know about it.

Summer is almost around the corner and the sunny days are more and more frequent. Whether you can go to the beach (which I am totally jealous of), go out in the sun, take the dog for a walk or simply sunbathe on your balcony or in the yard, you will definitely need sunscreen.

Did you know the skin is the largest external organ in our body? It is only natural to do your best to maintain it’s stability; the so-called homeostasis.

Any imbalances can cause detrimental effects such as wrinkles, rashes, skin cancer, blister, and immune disorder to name just a few.

The best thing you can do to your skin is to protect it from the harmful sun rays. According to cancer.org “It’s not possible (or healthy) to avoid sunlight completely, but there are ways to help ensure you’re not getting too much sun”.

One such recommended way is to use sunscreen on the parts of the body that are not covered with clothes. But how do you pick the right one?

In this post, I will go over what to look for on a label, how to avoid getting tricked, and the difference between the 3 types of UV radiation (UVA, UVB, and UVC rays). Here I have also done the hard work for you (as always😊) and managed to provide you with the best sunblocks list on the market.
